Robinson grew up in Orange County, California, but attended Brown University, in Rhode Island, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, and then enrolled at New York University, where she obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree. Her interest in theater had deveoped during her school years, performing in a local production of “Bambi”, then in high school becaming involved in stage plays, and went on to direct various productions during her time at Brown University.

After her involvement in a few short films during the ’90s went unnoticed, Robinson achieved great rocognition when she wrote and directed the short film en titled “D.E.B.S.” in 2003. The action/comedy film which is actually a parody of the “Charlie’s Angels” format – portrays a lesbian love story, the theme of which would dominate many of Robinson’s projects. It toured numerous festivals, winning seven film festival awards and giving Robinson her first taste of fame, and a considerable net worth as well. The following year she expanded it into a feature film of the same name, additionally improving her status in the industry, and increasing her wealth.

Robinson became involved in another major project in 2004, as one of the writers of the popular television drama series, “The L Word”, which also portrayes the lives of lesbians. In addition to writing, she also directed several episodes of the show, further improving her net worth.

The following year saw her directing the sports/comedy film “Herbie: Fully Loaded” for Walt Disney Pictures. In 2007 she wrote, directed and was the executive producer of the web series “Girltrash!”, and went on to co-write and co-executively produce a number of episodes of the HBO television series “Hung” in 2009-2011. In the meantime, she directed the short-lived comedy/drama series called “Gigantic” in 2010, and then a couple of episodes of “Charlies Angels” – a remake of the original 1967 series – in 2012. Robinson subsequently wrote the screenplay for several episodes of the dark fantasy horror television series “True Blood”, in 2012-2014, and executively produced numerous episodes of the show. Around the same time, she wrote and produced “Girltrash: All Night Long”, a musical serving as prequel to her 2007 “Girltrash!” series, reinforcing her status of a talented figure in the filmmaking world and increasing her wealth.

She then focused on her work in the ABC drama series “How to Get Away with Murder” in 2015-2016, in which she served as a writer and consulting producer. She is currently involved in writing and directing the biographical drama film “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women”, announced to be released in 2017.

When it comes to her private life, Robinson is a lesbian and her longtime partner is television writer and director Alexandra Kondracke. The couple has one child together, and the family resides in Los Feliz, California.
